Una de las pocas edificaciones civiles que se conservan de la época colonial, emplazada en el tradicional barrio de San Marcos, acoge en la actualidad al Museo de Acuarela y Dibujo Muñoz Mariño.
Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño es, sin duda, el acuarelista más destacado que Ecuador ha dado al mundo en el siglo XX.
La maestría excepcional de la acuarela de Muñoz Mariño, indujo a la UNESCO a sugerirle pintar las ciudades declaradas Patrimonio de la Humanidad. Viajero incansable, se convierte en cronista de las ciudades patrimoniales, recorre América, África, Asia y Europa, captando en sus dibujos y acuarelas los rincones y secretos de hermosas e históricas ciudades y pueblos, siempre desde una óptica apacible y positiva. Muñoz Mariño nos enseña a mirar y a admirar lo que el transeúnte común, apurado, muchas veces no ve. Esto se aplica también a Quito, siendo Oswaldo uno de los más fieles descubridores de la ciudad y sus mágicos rincones. En ese sentido es el cronista gráfico por excelencia de nuestra ciudad.
Por lo tanto, tener un espacio permanente de exposición para la riquísima colección de acuarelas, dibujos y tintas que Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño ha producido durante más de ocho décadas de vida, constituye un verdadero aporte para la capital.
El Museo de Acuarela y Dibujo Muñoz Mariño se concibe como un espacio museístico dinámico que promueve la interacción de las áreas expositivas con el público asistente, por lo que su propuesta museográfica buscará, en todo momento, incentivar este diálogo a través de exposiciones de carácter permanente y temporal.
No solo se exibirá la obra de Muñoz Mariño, el museo busca exibir la obra de artistas contemporáneos, nacionales e internacionales que manejen las técnicas de dibujo y acuarela.

The Muñoz Mariño Watercolor and Drawing Museum is located in one of the few remaining civil buildings from the colonial period in the traditional San Marcos neighborhood in the heart of Quito’s Historical Center.
Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño is certainly the most outstanding aquarellist that Ecuador has brought forth in the 20th century.
Muñoz Mariño’s exceptional mastery of watercolor prompted UNESCO to ask him to paint all the cities that had been declared part of the World Cultural Heritage of Humanity. On his extensive travels throughout America, Africa, Asia and Europe, he was able to capture in his drawings and watercolors the lesser known corners and spots of beautiful historical cities and villages. He always documents these heritage cities from a calm and positive perspective. Muñoz Mariño teaches us how to see and admire what often escapes us when rushing through a city. This approach of his is also applied to his pictures of Quito. Indeed Oswaldo Muñoz Mariño one of the most dedicated explorers of this city and its magical corners. In this sense he is certainly this city’s veritable visual chronicler.
The creation of a permanent exhibition space for this extremely rich collection of watercolors, drawings and ink sketches – an oeuvre spanning more than eighty years – can be seen as an invaluable contribution to Ecuador’s capital city.
The Muñoz Mariño Watercolor and Drawing Museum was conceived as a dynamic museum space that will serve to promote the interaction of exhibition areas with the public. Its own museum program will offer incentives for this dialogue by organizing both permanent and temporary exhibitions.
The museum will not only exhibit works by Muñoz Mariño but also present works by contemporary, national and international artists who utilize drawing and watercolor techniques.
The Vice Presidency of the Republic of Ecuador and the Muñoz Mariño Watercolor and Drawing Museum inaugurate the exhibition Art equally, that will remain open to the public until Jun 20, 2012
The exhibition have 204 watercolors painted by young people with disabilities who participated in the project “Recreación artística para la inclusión de personas con discapacidad”

* The Muñoz Mariño Watercolor and drawing Museum continue offering watercolor workshops for youngsters and adults (aged 14 an up). The Schedules for the regular workshops are:
